Appeal to Israeli bloggers: Town hall meeting in Sderot (UPDATED)

(UPDATE) Thanks to all, like Yid With Lid, who are writing in. Keep those ideas coming, and I'll let you when and what develops. DB

In the wake of this morning's lethal Kassam rocket barrage in Sderot, and the lack of a coherent, effective, and ongoing Israeli government media response, not to mention the chronic under-coverage by international - and often local media, I am calling upon Israeli bloggers, and Israel's supporters abroad to work together as a non-partisan group to hold a town hall-style meeting in Sderot.

This meeting should include full, real-time video/audio/written/photographic coverage, as only the blogosphere knows how, including one-on-one and voxpop interviews, first and foremost with the beleaguered residents, on-the-scene analysis, and reax from local and national officials and experts.

I welcome thoughtful responses offering practical ideas for organization and content, underwriting, invitees, format, etc with an eye towards international coverage, and making it happen as soon as practical.

I think the easiest way to help bloggers not resident in Israel discuss and promote news of the situation is to form either a new blog which contains ONLY news and views regarding ongoing incidents. Another effective way would be to begin an e-mail listserv or Yahoo Group in which information could be posted.

Yasher Koach...and keep us informed.

Excellent point.

Excellent idea, but I'm not clear how you intend to carry this out. Do you envisage a real conference on the ground in sderot along with city walks and interviews with residents, all transmitted by video online? If so, you will need in addition to cameramen/bloggers in English also translators, because it is always preferable to interview people in their own language.

I have no blog in English but I'm prepared to come down from Haifa to Sderot and help. Just let me know what's needed.

Thanks for writing in. The idea is still in play, and, and many residents get along in good enough English.

I'm also waiting for more interest and ideas, before setting anything in stone.

Thanks for the very generous offer, in any case. I will keep it on hand. Please shoot me an email with contact info.

I like to think I’m a supporter of Israel and would love to participate in this. My blog is Llano Estacado.

Hello Dave,

I like the idea, but like anat I am not really sure, what kind of plan you have in your head ;-). But I will help with everything I can do from over here in Germany and take part in whatsoever.

Greetings to all the visitors, new and old. Please leave a note - I read and consider all of them.

I'd like some good pictures to counteract the Arab "just they're suffering" ones.
